Barcelona Push for New Marcus Rashford Loan After Flick Gives Approval

‎Barcelona have begun fresh discussions with Manchester United over extending Marcus Rashford’s stay through a second loan agreement. The move follows approval from head coach Hansi Flick, despite earlier indications that the forward might return to England.

‎Financial limitations remain a key factor in the club’s strategy. The Catalan side are not prepared to activate the €30 million purchase clause in the existing deal, opting instead to pursue another temporary arrangement. Negotiations are ongoing as both clubs attempt to align their expectations.
‎Flick’s backing changes direction
‎Flick has endorsed the plan to retain Rashford for another season, signaling confidence in the attacker’s role within his system. Earlier reports suggested a likely return to Old Trafford, but the coach’s stance has influenced a shift in approach from the club’s leadership.
‎The forward recently marked his 13th goal of the campaign in a 2-0 victory over Getafe CF, contributing to Barcelona’s dominant league run. Rashford is also understood to prefer staying in Spain rather than heading back to the Premier League.
‎Loan deal prioritized over permanent move
‎Instead of committing to a full transfer, Barcelona are focused on negotiating a renewed loan. This approach allows them to maintain squad depth without breaching financial constraints. If a permanent deal becomes unavoidable, the club would attempt to reduce the current valuation.
‎Transfer insider Florian Plettenberg highlighted the situation, noting that Barcelona are actively pushing for another loan while talks continue with Manchester United. The club’s preference is clear: extend the temporary arrangement or renegotiate the fee if necessary.
‎Role in the squad and season output
‎Rashford’s involvement fluctuated during the latter part of the season, fueling speculation about his future. Despite competition for starting spots, Flick values his physical attributes and versatility, which add flexibility across multiple competitions.
‎Across 45 appearances, Rashford has registered 13 goals and 13 assists. Barcelona believe that a full pre-season under Flick could help him rediscover consistent form and strengthen his place within the squad.
‎Manchester United weigh their options
‎For Manchester United, the situation presents a financial dilemma. With the player approaching the final phase of his contract, the club is eager to generate funds for upcoming transfers. A permanent sale is therefore seen as the preferred outcome.
‎However, the English side are reportedly reluctant to agree to another loan unless it includes a mandatory purchase clause. Ongoing talks are aimed at finding a middle ground that satisfies both parties.
‎As discussions progress, a resolution is expected before the summer transfer window opens. Current indications suggest that continuing in La Liga remains the most likely path for Rashford, given his limited role in United’s immediate plans.
