La Liga Chief Javier Tebas Welcomes Jose Mourinho’s Possible Real Madrid Comeback
La Liga president Javier Tebas has addressed the increasing rumours linking Jose Mourinho with a return to Real Madrid, offering a positive assessment of the potential move.
The Portuguese manager, who is currently at Benfica, has emerged as a strong candidate to take charge at the Santiago Bernabeu. Real Madrid are expected to reassess their managerial situation after a difficult campaign, prompting speculation about a high-profile appointment.

Tebas welcomed the idea of Mourinho coming back to Spain, noting that his presence would be beneficial not only for the club but for the league as a whole. He highlighted Mourinho’s reputation for creating excitement, describing him as a figure who consistently delivers a sense of occasion.
He also stressed that the final decision lies with Real Madrid’s leadership, but reiterated that Mourinho’s return would enhance La Liga’s appeal due to his personality and track record.
Behind the scenes, Real Madrid are reportedly planning to make a change in the managerial position. Alvaro Arbeloa, who assumed control following Xabi Alonso’s exit earlier in the year, is not expected to continue beyond the current season after a run of disappointing results.
Florentino Perez is believed to favour Mourinho as his top choice to lead the club forward. Their relationship remains strong from their previous time together, and Mourinho’s history of achieving results in high-pressure environments makes him a compelling option.
Currently, Mourinho is working in Portugal with Benfica, having taken over in September following a long spell managing clubs in England, Italy, and Spain. Although his contract extends to 2027, there are mechanisms in place that could allow him to leave earlier.
It has been reported that a clause within his deal enables either party to end the agreement at the conclusion of the season, which could pave the way for a return to Madrid.
During his previous spell at Real Madrid, Mourinho enjoyed significant success, including a 100-point La Liga title, along with Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup triumphs.
Even so, he has attempted to ease speculation about a comeback, stating that his immediate objective is to help Benfica secure a return to the Champions League.
