Chelsea are also considering Silva as they search for a permanent successor to Liam Rosenior. The Premier League club dismissed Rosenior and have since been assessing several candidates, with Silva emerging as one of the names under serious consideration ahead of the summer.
For now, Calum McFarlane remains in interim charge until the end of the 2025–26 season. Chelsea’s leadership are focused on appointing a figure with strong authority and experience, aiming to bring stability to the squad and avoid another short-term solution.
Silva’s work at Fulham has earned widespread recognition, particularly for his attacking approach. However, concerns persist within Chelsea over his limited exposure at elite “Big Six” level. His previous spells with Everton, Watford, and Hull City were marked by inconsistency, and he has yet to guide a team deep into a major European title challenge. Meanwhile, speculation linking Mourinho with a return to Stamford Bridge has effectively been dismissed.
Silva’s current deal at Fulham runs until June 2026, leaving his future uncertain. Benfica’s interest could force Chelsea to act more quickly if they wish to secure his services. Fulham, on the other hand, remain hopeful of convincing him to extend his stay.
Ultimately, much depends on Mourinho’s next move. If he departs for Madrid, Benfica’s pursuit of Silva is expected to intensify, potentially triggering a direct battle with Chelsea as both clubs aim to reshape their futures.
