Ruben Amorim explains why he's 'mad and upset' with Manchester United performance
Ruben Amorim has explained why he was "mad and upset" with his Manchester United side, despite their much improved performance at Liverpool.

The Red Devils entered the tournament on a historically bad run of form, with four consecutive defeats stretching all the way to the end of 2024, with no goals in three of those games. There were fears that United could suffer another humiliating defeat at Anfield.

However, Amorim's side had admirable battling spirit on Merseyside and might have claimed all three points from an exciting game that finished in a 2-2 tie. United's most recent triumph came against arch-rivals Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, and their manager has been unable to explain why they have been so inconsistent.
Amorim told Sky Sports after an impressive showing against Liverpool: "I get madder because of the other games. It's much more difficult to grasp certain things. This isn't about the system or approach; it's about something else. I am so disturbed today. I'm satisfied with the performance, but everyone today will think the squad did a terrific job. Today I'm permitted to be the sole guy who is dissatisfied with the squad, but today we were all together.
"We had some strong games during the previous month, but then we plummeted again. It is something that requires us to be very constant. We had this conversation after Manchester City and it was the same. I want to see my squad play much better, but I believe the most essential thing to address today is mindset, which is the key to everything. Today we were a different team, not because of the system, not because of technical or tactical issues. We confronted the opponent like we should every day. Training and matches do not match the environment or the opponent that we must face every day."
Those remarks were echoed by United captain Bruno Fernandes, who wants the Red Devils to improve their performance against all opponents, not just old rivals. The Portuguese playmaker stated, "Obviously, we've been attacked, and deservedly, because our place in the standings tells it all. We have lost too many points. Even now, we can't be satisfied with the draw since we need more points than they do.
"It's a really nice and fair outcome; both sides played excellent football, and it was heated. I'm really furious because we can do this against Liverpool at Anfield, the best team in the Premier League this season; why can't we do it every week?"
United are 13th in the Premier League rankings, 23 points down of leaders Liverpool. They have another huge game coming up next Sunday at Emirates Stadium, where they will face Arsenal in the FA Cup third round.
