‎Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy had been in negotiations with Palace chairman Steve Parish over a potential deal. An agreement was believed to be in place with both the club and the player, but Arsenal’s late intervention has shifted the momentum. Spurs are now expected to turn their focus to alternative transfer targets.
‎According to reports from The Athletic, Arsenal intensified their interest following Kai Havertz’s knee injury, which could sideline the German midfielder for months. The north London club had been monitoring Eze since the start of the transfer window but accelerated talks once Havertz’s setback was confirmed.
‎Eze, who is 27, grew up as an Arsenal fan and began his youth career at the club’s academy. His desire to take the next step in his career has aligned with Arsenal’s renewed push to strengthen their midfield. Crystal Palace are understood to be open to the move, acknowledging the player’s wish to join the Gunners.
‎The deal is not expected to be finalised before Thursday, as Palace manager Oliver Glasner wants Eze available for their crucial Europa Conference League play-off first-leg match against Fredrikstad. Once that fixture is completed, progress on the transfer is likely to accelerate.
