‎André Onana Completes Loan Move from Manchester United to Trabzonspor

‎André Onana has finalized a season-long loan move to Trabzonspor, stepping away from Manchester United for a new chapter in Türkiye. The transfer was confirmed on Thursday evening, just ahead of the Turkish transfer window closing on September 12.
André Onana joins Trabzonspor on a season-long loan from Manchester United, sealing a fresh start in Türkiye for the 2025–26 campaign.

‎Manchester United’s signing of Senne Lammens on deadline day set the stage for Onana’s departure, and reports soon followed linking the goalkeeper with a switch to the Süper Lig. The loan deal contains no fee and includes no option to buy, according to The Athletic.
‎Onana’s time at Old Trafford has been marked by both high and low points. He made 102 appearances for the Red Devils after arriving from Inter in July 2023 in a transfer worth €51 million (£43.9 million, $57.4 million). One of his most notable contributions came in the 2024 FA Cup final, where he helped Manchester United defeat Manchester City 2–1.
‎The 2024–25 season, however, proved more difficult. Mistakes in goal led to heavy criticism, including harsh words from former United midfielder Nemanja Matić, who labeled the Cameroon international “one of the worst goalkeepers in Manchester United’s history.” New manager Ruben Amorim left Onana out of the starting lineup for the first three Premier League fixtures, preferring Altay Bayındır instead. His only start came during a surprising Carabao Cup defeat to Grimsby Town.
‎Manchester United issued a farewell message to the 29-year-old upon his departure, stating: “We would like to wish Andre good luck.” Trabzonspor, meanwhile, welcomed their new signing on X with the words: “A new adventure, a new challenge. Welcome to the world’s greatest city team, André Onana!”
‎Though his contract with Manchester United runs until 2028, Onana will spend the 2025–26 season competing in the Süper Lig as he looks to pursue silverware with Trabzonspor.
