‎Roy Keane Clashes with Ian Wright Over Arsenal's Liverpool Defeat Ahead of Nottingham Forest Clash

‎Roy Keane launched a furious exchange with Ian Wright after the Arsenal legend refused to criticise his former club’s performance in their recent 1-0 Premier League defeat to Liverpool. The Gunners saw their unbeaten start to the 2025-26 campaign end at Anfield, where Dominik Szoboszlai’s stunning late free-kick sealed the points for Arne Slot’s side.

‎Arsenal’s cautious approach questioned
‎The defeat drew criticism from several pundits, who argued that Arsenal adopted an overly cautious game plan. Mikel Arteta’s side managed just one shot on target across the 90 minutes, raising questions about their attacking intent in a game that produced few moments of quality.
‎Wright defends Arsenal against criticism
‎Appearing on The Overlap, Wright offered a positive assessment of Arsenal’s display despite their lack of attacking output. The 61-year-old, who scored 185 goals for the club during his playing career, praised the team’s solidity and resilience against a high-flying Liverpool side, sparking a heated reaction from Keane.
‎Keane questions Wright’s loyalty
‎Keane, frustrated by Wright’s refusal to criticise Arsenal, snapped back: “Just be critical of Arsenal for once in your life. Are you still getting paid off by them? Are you still on the wage bill, are you still getting wages off them?”
‎Wright stood firm in his defence, replying: “No, I’m not going to be critical of them. If Szoboszlai doesn’t score a great goal it’s 0-0, it’s a point, and I would take that.”
‎A fiery on-screen clash, strong off-screen bond
‎Despite the on-screen row, Keane and Wright maintain a close friendship away from punditry duties. During Wright’s recovery from knee replacement surgery last year, Keane was photographed helping him in a wheelchair, highlighting the warmth of their off-camera relationship.
‎Arsenal vs Nottingham Forest preview
‎Arsenal will attempt to rebound from the Liverpool loss when they return to action at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday against Nottingham Forest. The clash brings added intrigue as new Forest manager Ange Postecoglou faces Arsenal for the first time since leaving rivals Tottenham in 2025, renewing his competitive rivalry with Arteta.
