Initially, Darren Fletcher filled in temporarily, before Carrick, a former United midfielder and assistant coach, took over. Under his guidance, United have won four consecutive matches, reigniting their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League.

‎Debate has emerged around whether Carrick deserves a full-time role regardless of the season’s outcome. Some pundits argue for a more experienced option, potentially targeting managers currently leading top national teams like England, Brazil, or the US ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

‎Owen, speaking with GOAL via casino.org, explained why Carrick is the ideal candidate: “Manchester United have tried everything over the past decade—experienced coaches, ex-players, international names—but Carrick is delivering results. The team is playing with confidence, the fans are excited, and there’s a sense of stability. If he secures Champions League qualification, it would be unwise to replace him.”

‎Carrick is also a practical choice financially. Owen added, “He’s local, settled, speaks the language, and isn’t tied to another contract. Compared to high-profile managers, he’s cost-effective and ready to plan long-term. With others busy at the World Cup, Carrick is the one who can hit the ground running.”

‎Looking ahead, Carrick aims to extend his winning streak to five matches as United travel to face a struggling West Ham. The club is expected to finalize its managerial decision after the conclusion of the 2025-26 season.
