‎Wrexham Transfer Shock? Wes Brown Backs Sterling Move and Suggests John Stones Could Follow

‎Raheem Sterling has been advised to explore a dramatic transfer to Wrexham as a way to reignite his enthusiasm for football. Former Manchester United defender Wes Brown believes the Hollywood-supported Welsh club could provide the perfect solution for the winger’s stalled momentum. Brown also hinted that Wrexham might attempt an ambitious move for Sterling’s ex-Manchester City teammate John Stones, who he thinks could influence games at a lower level much like Granit Xhaka has done.

‎Previously considered one of England’s most dangerous attackers, Sterling now faces an uncertain next step. Following his departure from Chelsea and ongoing search for a new club, Brown proposed a surprising idea — relocating to Wrexham’s Racecourse Ground in a move that would stun the football world.
‎Speaking to BettingLounge, Brown explained that the atmosphere created by owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney could help reignite Sterling’s motivation. He suggested Wrexham’s story — climbing from non-league football toward Premier League ambitions — offers emotional and psychological benefits that go beyond financial rewards.
‎Although Sterling has faced criticism over wages and transfers, Brown defended the forward’s character. He argued that top players usually care most about playing regularly and feeling important to a team’s success. Brown stressed that Sterling should prioritise joining a club where he feels genuinely valued and supported. At Wrexham, Sterling would likely become both a key player and a global face of the team.
‎Brown also highlighted John Stones as another candidate who could succeed by stepping outside top-tier clubs. Comparing the situation to Granit Xhaka’s successful impact after moving down a level, Brown believes Stones could provide leadership and technical quality for clubs such as Wrexham or Coventry City.
‎With Stones potentially facing reduced playing time later in his career, Brown sees an opportunity for ambitious clubs to secure a transformative signing. He referenced his own experience moving to Sunderland, explaining that while stepping down a division is not suitable for everyone, it can offer career longevity and renewed purpose.
‎Tactically, Brown emphasised Stones’ unique qualities. Despite being naturally a defender, his evolution under Pep Guardiola into a defender-midfielder hybrid makes him extremely valuable. Brown believes Stones could control match tempo in the Championship or lower Premier League just as Xhaka successfully reshaped his role in Germany.
‎Should Wrexham’s Hollywood owners seek another headline-grabbing football storyline, a Sterling-Stones reunion in North Wales would certainly attract global attention.
