‎The Atletico president addressed the situation publicly before facing Barcelona, expressing clear frustration at the ongoing reports. He warned that coverage of Alvarez’s future had gone too far, reiterating that the forward is tied to the club through a long-term contract. Signed from Manchester City for £82 million in a deal overseen by Andrea Berta, the club has no desire to part ways with the attacker.
‎Interest in Alvarez continues to grow, particularly from Barcelona, who view him as a long-term option to succeed Robert Lewandowski. In a recent meeting between the sides, Lewandowski delivered a late winner after Marcus Rashford had cancelled out an earlier goal from Giuliano Simeone. Alvarez remained on the bench throughout, as Diego Simeone chose to keep him rested for an important Champions League fixture.
‎Barcelona’s European form has been impressive, highlighted by a commanding 7-2 victory over Newcastle United, setting up a high-profile clash between the Spanish rivals.
‎At the same time, Arsenal are looking to strengthen their attacking options. Recent setbacks in domestic competitions, including a loss to Southampton despite a goal from Viktor Gyokeres, have exposed issues in front of goal. Manager Mikel Arteta faces a demanding run of fixtures, including clashes with Sporting CP, Bournemouth, and Manchester City.
‎On the pitch, Alvarez remains a key performer. He has recorded 17 goals in 44 appearances this season and is aiming to surpass the 29-goal mark he achieved in his debut campaign. With multiple matches left across competitions, that milestone is still well within reach.
