'A Mystery': Sancho Labelled Most Disappointing Player in Man Utd History
Former Manchester United forward Louis Saha has delivered a harsh verdict on Jadon Sancho, describing the winger as the club’s most underwhelming signing ever. The ex-Red Devils striker expressed confusion over why the England international has failed to rediscover the form he once showed at Borussia Dortmund.

When Sancho completed his £73 million transfer from the German side in 2021, expectations were immense. Having built a reputation as one of Europe’s most effective attacking players in the Bundesliga, he arrived at Old Trafford with high hopes of making an immediate impact. However, his time in the Premier League has not lived up to that promise.
Across 83 appearances for Manchester United, Sancho managed only 12 goals. His struggles were compounded by a public fallout with former manager Erik ten Hag, along with multiple temporary departures. These included a return to Dortmund and loan spells at Chelsea and Aston Villa.
Speaking to BetVictor, Saha admitted that Sancho’s lack of progress remains difficult to explain. He pointed to the stark contrast between the winger’s previous performances in Germany and his output in England, describing the situation as puzzling.
Saha suggested that the player may benefit from a reset, similar to the path taken by Marcus Rashford. Despite acknowledging Sancho’s immense ability, he believes the winger has not come close to reaching his peak level since arriving in Manchester.
The Frenchman also reflected on how frustrating it is to see such potential go unrealised. Having dealt with injuries during his own career, Saha noted that he would have relished the number of opportunities Sancho has received, especially given the winger’s natural talent.
Sancho’s difficulties come during a period of heavy spending by Manchester United as they attempt to regain their place among England’s elite. Yet, according to Saha, the winger represents a clear example of wasted potential.
Now 26, Sancho is spending the season on loan at Aston Villa, where his struggles have continued. With just one goal in 36 appearances across all competitions, his impact has remained limited. As his contract with United approaches its expiration this summer, the club is expected to let him leave on a free transfer.
With Villa still chasing European qualification and aiming for success in continental competition, Sancho will be hoping to feature more regularly before the campaign ends. Increased game time could be crucial if he is to attract interest from other clubs ahead of the next transfer window.
