At Liverpool, Slot is currently navigating a challenging season following a difficult defence of the Premier League title. Despite this, he continues to work under a contract that runs until June 2027, with no indication that he intends to leave his long-term project.
The interest from Ajax comes as technical director Jordi Cruijff oversees the club’s managerial search. Ajax are preparing for a new chapter and require a permanent successor to interim boss Oscar Garcia as they reshape their sporting structure.
Among the names being considered, Girona’s Michel is understood to be a strong candidate. Ajax have also assessed other experienced Dutch coaches, although Peter Bosz—another admired option—has already committed his future to PSV Eindhoven, narrowing the club’s choices.
Slot’s name entered discussions due to his strong track record in Dutch football. At Feyenoord, he delivered major success, including the Eredivisie title in the 2022–23 season, a KNVB Cup win the following year, and a run to the Conference League final during a highly productive three-year spell.
However, reports from journalist Mike Verweij suggest the inquiry went no further, with Slot showing little interest in a return to Ajax at this stage of his career. His focus remains on Liverpool’s objectives, particularly finishing the season strongly and securing Champions League qualification.
As Ajax continue their rebuild under Cruijff, Liverpool’s manager is expected to stay committed to stabilising results and driving the club forward in England.
