According to the club’s findings, Mendy has suffered damage to the rectus femoris tendon in his right leg. The problem emerged within the opening ten minutes of the game, with his reaction on the pitch immediately pointing to a serious injury.

This development creates a major void in the defensive unit at a crucial stage of the campaign. Although the club has not finalized a recovery timeline, internal discussions are already focusing on surgery as the most viable solution for long-term rehabilitation.

If the procedure goes ahead, medical experts anticipate a recovery period of roughly five months. Such an outcome would not only bring his current season to an early end but also affect his availability for the summer period and the beginning of the next term.

The latest setback adds to a growing list of fitness concerns, marking Mendy’s fifth injury this season. Even with limited playing time, his performances when available—especially in Champions League knockout fixtures—have demonstrated his importance to the team.

Beyond the individual case, the issue highlights a wider pattern within the squad. Over the last two seasons, recurring injuries have disrupted team stability, leaving the coaching staff and medical personnel under increasing strain as they attempt to manage player fitness across a packed schedule.

Mendy’s involvement this season has been minimal, totaling 448 minutes over nine appearances. After making a return from a previous long-term injury in November during a trip to Athens, he had been building momentum before this latest setback halted his progress.

The club addressed the situation in an official statement, confirming: “After the tests carried out today on our player Ferland Mendy by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the tendon of the rectus femoris of the right leg. Pending evolution.”
