Guardiola Explains Why Jérémy Doku Can Reach Level of Vinícius Júnior and Lamine Yamal

‎Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola believes Jérémy Doku has all the qualities needed to become one of football’s elite wingers after the Belgian’s recent burst of goalscoring form.
‎Doku has found the net in three successive matches, giving Manchester City an important attacking edge as they continue their pursuit of Arsenal in the closing weeks of the Premier League season.
‎Jeremy Doku’s recent scoring form has convinced Pep Guardiola he can become one of football’s elite wingers.

‎After City defeated Brentford 3-0, Guardiola was questioned about whether Doku could eventually match the standards set by Vinícius Júnior and Lamine Yamal.
‎"Yeah, for sure," said Guardiola. "And always accept being pushed. Always accept that. And that is so nice. We are really pleased. Now he is winning games. But he has always been really, really good."
‎The Spanish coach also humorously remarked that managers are often praised when players excel, while responsibility shifts to players when results are disappointing.
‎Guardiola stressed that mentality is the defining factor in determining whether talented players can become truly world-class performers.
‎"It depends on your mentality," Guardiola explained. "I want to become one of the best wingers in the world. Otherwise, you're in a comfort zone and you say, 'No, it's fine, it's fine.' Always I've been, Jeremy, dribbles and whatever. I always try. But I say, no, I want to become one of the best of the best. That is when you reach that level."
‎The City boss believes Doku’s willingness to keep improving can help elevate him beyond being viewed simply as a skilful dribbler.
‎Following his latest goal at the Etihad Stadium, Doku played down suggestions that he had transformed his style during his productive spell in front of goal.
‎The winger had already scored against Everton and Southampton before adding another strike against Brentford.
‎"I'm an instinct player. Today it's working out. I scored some goals, I've always played with instinct but now the goals are coming. I haven't been a different player," Doku explained after the match.
‎Doku said his goal arrived naturally after recognising an opportunity to shoot without hesitation, similar to his finish earlier in the week against Everton.
‎Manchester City’s victory ensured they stayed close to Arsenal in the Premier League standings, with Guardiola’s side aware that any dropped points could prove costly.
‎Doku’s attacking influence has become increasingly important for City, especially against opponents attempting to frustrate them with deep defensive setups.
‎City’s remaining fixtures include matches against Crystal Palace, AFC Bournemouth and Aston Villa as the season approaches its conclusion.
‎"Three games left and we go for it," the Spaniard said about the title race. "It has been a long time since the Arsenal game. I love to play at home, hopefully we can put pressure on Arsenal. Win our games and do what we have to do."
