Since departing Villa Park during the January window, the Dutch international has revived his reputation with an impressive run at AS Roma. His performances in Italy have dramatically shifted perceptions, with the striker netting 11 goals in just 14 appearances.

Reports indicate that United are not alone in their interest. Chelsea and Newcastle United are also monitoring his situation closely, setting up potential competition among top English sides. Meanwhile, Roma hold a purchase option valued between €25 million and €30 million.

Malen’s earlier struggles at Villa were addressed by manager Unai Emery, who explained that competition with Ollie Watkins limited his opportunities. Emery noted that the forward needed consistent minutes in a central role—something he has now found in Italy.

Roma appear keen to secure Malen permanently. Club owners, the Friedkin family, are expected to finalize the deal soon, reflecting his growing importance to the squad. His contributions have played a key role in keeping Roma competitive in the race for European qualification, with the club currently sitting sixth, just behind Juventus and Como.

The connection to Old Trafford raises questions, especially after United’s significant attacking investment last summer. The club spent heavily on Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko, all of whom have contributed to their campaign.

Even with a strong attacking lineup and Cunha returning ahead of a key fixture with Liverpool, Malen’s clinical form could still tempt United. His ability to deliver as a leading striker in a top European league makes him a compelling option as the club prepares for higher-level competition next season.
