Man Utd Transfer Plans: Mateus Fernandes Targeted, Morgan Rogers Set for No.10 Transition

‎A reshaping of the midfield is underway at Manchester United, with the club targeting emerging Premier League talent to lead their next chapter. Mateus Fernandes and Morgan Rogers have both emerged as priority options.

‎Planning beyond Bruno Fernandes
‎United are actively preparing for the future of the No.10 role, with Rogers identified as a potential successor to Bruno Fernandes. The Aston Villa player’s versatility, including his ability to feature on the left side, strengthens his profile as a valuable attacking asset.
‎Although the club prefers to retain their captain, the presence of a release clause in his deal leaves open the possibility of change. Bringing in Rogers would both provide competition and serve as a long-term solution.
‎Participation in the UEFA Champions League has positioned United strongly in the market for top-tier domestic players.
‎Mateus Fernandes back on the radar
‎At the same time, United are revisiting their interest in Fernandes of West Ham United. The midfielder has impressed despite his team’s struggles, prompting increased scouting attention.
‎Discussions have reportedly taken place regarding a possible bid, particularly if West Ham are relegated. United previously passed on signing him, allowing the London club to secure his services for £38 million.
‎His rise has since accelerated, with Roberto Martinez praising his development. Having progressed into the senior Portugal squad after his time at Sporting CP, Fernandes is now regarded as one of the division’s standout young midfielders.
‎Outgoing players reshape priorities
‎Changes within the current squad are also influencing transfer plans. Casemiro is expected to leave on a free transfer, while Manuel Ugarte has been made available for sale.
‎In contrast, Kobbie Mainoo remains a cornerstone of the club’s long-term project after signing a new contract. United are therefore looking to recruit experienced midfielders to complement his role.
‎Multiple high-profile options considered
‎The club’s shortlist includes several prominent names. Aurelien Tchouameni of Real Madrid is viewed as an ideal addition, while Adam Wharton at Crystal Palace is also being tracked.
‎Though some see similarities between Wharton and Mainoo, he remains under consideration depending on valuation. Interest in Elliot Anderson of Nottingham Forest is complicated by competition from Manchester City.
‎Sandro Tonali of Newcastle United is another candidate, although any move would be unexpected.
‎West Ham are likely to seek a substantial return on Fernandes, but relegation could shift their negotiating position. The possibility of playing alongside his namesake Bruno Fernandes at Old Trafford may influence the player’s decision.
