Neymar MLS Transfer Decision Timeline Revealed Amid Inter Miami and Cincinnati Links
Neymar’s potential switch to Major League Soccer is gaining momentum, with the Brazilian attacker weighing his next step after returning to Santos. The idea of reuniting with former Barcelona colleagues at Inter Miami remains appealing, but a possible move to Cincinnati has also entered the conversation.

At present, Neymar is back playing in Brazil, yet expectations remain high that he will pursue one last significant challenge outside his home country. MLS continues to attract elite global players, making it a logical destination, especially given the presence of close allies already competing in the league. Still, clarity on his future will not come immediately, as international commitments take priority.
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, timing and fitness are crucial factors shaping the situation. Speaking on talkSPORT’s “The S Word,” he explained that discussions involving Cincinnati could progress if Neymar maintains his physical condition. However, the Brazilian is not expected to finalize any decision until after the World Cup, contingent on securing a place in the squad.
Inter Miami has long been viewed as the most likely landing spot, with anticipation surrounding a high-profile reunion. Despite this, Cincinnati’s emergence as a serious option adds a new dynamic. A transfer to the Ohio club would signal strong ambition as they aim to rival Miami’s star appeal.
Neymar, who still holds the record for the most expensive transfer following his 2017 move to Paris Saint-Germain, has struggled with injuries in recent seasons. As a result, any MLS club considering a move will closely monitor his fitness, particularly during the World Cup period, before offering a designated player contract.
Meanwhile, MLS interest extends beyond Neymar. Mohamed Salah is attracting attention after confirming he will leave Liverpool this summer. San Diego FC, under the ownership of Sir Mohamed Mansour, is among the clubs closely tracking the Egyptian forward’s situation.
Jacobs noted that Salah remains a major target despite public downplaying of the possibility. He highlighted Mansour’s continued interest, suggesting that a move involving Salah and San Diego could still materialize.
In addition, Manchester United midfielder Casemiro is nearing a potential departure, with Inter Miami and LA Galaxy both linked to the experienced Brazilian.
Elsewhere, Robert Lewandowski’s future appears less likely to involve MLS. Although previously connected with Chicago Fire, indications now point toward a move to Saudi Arabia instead. Jacobs suggested that interest from MLS has cooled, leaving the situation open to developments elsewhere.
Even if Lewandowski does not arrive, the league’s pursuit of players like Neymar and Casemiro signals another major recruitment phase following Lionel Messi’s landmark move in 2023.
