Salah Told Only Saudi, MLS or Italy Remain as Liverpool Chapter Nears End
Mohamed Salah has been cautioned that his next move may come from a shrinking pool of options as his celebrated Liverpool career approaches its conclusion. Although he remains one of the Premier League’s most iconic forwards, former Reds midfielder Didi Hamann believes the Egyptian is no longer at the level required to attract another top English club.

Hamann delivered a direct verdict on Salah’s current standing, pointing to a noticeable drop in impact, particularly in open play. Speaking to BetKing, he suggested that recent performances could discourage potential suitors within England’s top flight.
According to Hamann, there may be little interest domestically. He highlighted that over the past 18 months, Salah has produced only a limited number of goals from open play, a trend he believes signals a decline. As a result, he expects any potential move to come from outside the Premier League, naming Saudi Arabia, Major League Soccer, or possibly Italy as realistic destinations.
Across Europe’s elite leagues, options also appear restricted. Despite Salah’s global reputation, financial demands tied to any deal could further reduce interest. Hamann dismissed the likelihood of a move to Germany or Spain, arguing that Bundesliga clubs may not meet salary expectations, while Spanish giants are unlikely to pursue him for tactical and financial reasons.
Italy, however, remains a plausible alternative. Hamann noted that Serie A clubs often value experienced players, making it a potential landing spot for the forward, who previously played in the country earlier in his career.
This season has not unfolded smoothly for Salah, adding weight to the discussion around his future. While still determined to finish strongly at Liverpool, he recently voiced frustration about constantly needing to justify his worth. Hamann disagreed with that stance, insisting that performance in the present outweighs past achievements, even for players of Salah’s stature.
As the summer approaches, Salah is set to bring an end to a remarkable nine-year stay at Anfield. Since joining from Roma, he has scored 257 goals in 435 matches and played a key role in major triumphs, including the Champions League victory in 2019 and two Premier League titles.
However, with just 12 goals in 39 appearances this season and Liverpool enduring a disappointing campaign, questions over his next step continue to grow. For some observers, the signs suggest his time at the very top level in Europe may be nearing its natural close.
